Research Areas and Honors

Prof. Tan focuses on the general area of Bioanalytical Chemistry and Chemistry Biology. He specializes in bioanalysis, molecular engineering, and DNA nanotechnology and biosensors. He has published more than 500 peer-reviewed scientific papers on world’s leading academic journals, such as Science, PNAS, and Nature. According to Thomson Reuters, he was among the small, prestigious group of Highly Cited Researchers in 2014, 2015, and 2016. The total citations of his publications exceed 36,500 with an H-index of 102 (SCI Web of Science). He has received many awards and honors, including the first prize of Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education (2011); ACS Florida Achievement Award (2012); first prize of the Hunan Province Natural Science Award (2013); and, second prize of the National Natural Science Award in China (2014). He was elected fellow of the American Association for the Advanced Science (AAAS) (2015); CAS academician (2015); and, TWAS academician (2016).
